Australia’s national carrier is the first in the Asia Pacific region to operate the brand-new, long-range Airbus A321XLR. The new aircraft will gradually replace Qantas’ Boeing 737 fleet over the next decade. Due to its fuel-efficiency and additional fuel tanks, the A321XLR can fly approximately 3,000 km further than the 737, enabling more non-stop flights across the Australian continent and beyond. New international routes that had not been feasible before due to the larger aircraft that would have been required are being evaluated, including connections between Perth on the west coast and India or Malaysia.
